Four Miles in Four Hours

The day started off optimistic, I packed up an iced coffee and went to pick up Skinny Runner for a drive down to San Diego. Later that iced coffee would wreck my stomach and that was the high point of my day…IMG_6781 (600x800)

Long story short – we spent 4 hours in the car because of two major accidents. The traffic was bumper to bumper and we were only 1 exit from where we started after an hour?!IMG_6786 (800x600)

Then, we saw a motorcycle guy serve to avoid getting hit, crash and fall right on the side of us! It was very scary, but he was able to stand right up and no one else got hurt.

SR tried to use my smart phone to find an alternate route, but we finally decided to give up and go home. We had to call it a loss on the race, but we’ll each run on our own tomorrow to at least get in the miles. She’s running the NY Mary too!!!IMG_6789 (800x600)

After hours in the hot car with no sustenance we needed lunch.

But, we’re on the Kim Kardash diet = eat Yogurtland everyday so we made the necessary stop.yogurtland

I kept it nutty and fruity.hello kitty yogurtland

hello kitty yogurtland spoon

SR refused to smile. I think she was sick of 4 hours of me insisting we play Truth or Dare in the car. We know more about each other than either one of us would care to admit.skinny runner not amused

How can you not smile when you have fro-yo?!why you so happy when your hair is so crappy

I made the necessary stops on the way home – pickles and watermelon.Stay tuned for a special Water Pickle Salad Recipe coming tomorrow!!!pickles and watermelon not together

Ben and I spent the evening cleaning and painting the base boards in the living room.

No, we didn’t paint them with Mexican yogurt – we just used that as the paint can.IMG_6803 (800x600)

See you later!

If Kim Does It…

Breaking News: Kim Kardashian went to Yogurtland 3 times in 3 days. See?! If this is what it takes to maintain a booty the boys love, then I’m all in too. kim at yland (source)

Yesterday afternoon I grabbed Panera for lunch. I tried their new-to-me chopped cobb with avocado (hold the bacon). It was good, but I wanted more egg and less blue cheese. They did hook up the avocado though!!! IMG_6761 (800x600)

My little brother joined me for lunch because my mom had an errand to do and needed a sitter sister for him. I ordered him the kid’s turkey sandwich and it was gross. It came with a slab of that weird “American” cheese on gummy white bread.IMG_6762 (800x600)

I also tried a bite of his cookie – it seemed like it wasn’t cooked all the way? Are their cookies always that soft??IMG_6763 (800x600)

At least they gave us extra bread! They must have known I carb load like it’s my job…IMG_6759 (800x600)

Then, I worked the afternoon away until Ben came home and we walked to dinner. We tried a new Mexican place and I got a fish salad. It came with a “homemade” spinach tortilla that was pretty amazing too.image

On the walk home we passed right by Yogurtland, and at the time didn’t realize Kim says it’s okay to go there every day. Sadly, I passed it up because I just went there yesterday Sad smile

I enjoyed some Cinnamon Chex for dessert later in the evening…IMG_6769

This morning I woke up and checked the Marathon Training schedule I had been eyeing for a while. I have been researching Hal Higdon’s plans this week and think I might switch from the Running Planet plan to his. The Running Planet plan seems a little high in junk miles for my body (example – two 6 mile runs at 10 min pace a week). IMG_6771 (800x600)

Situation:

I am running a half marathon tomorrow.

I’m training for a full marathon in Nov.

Thoughts:

Since the half tomorrow is not a goal race and I have not been training to run a strong half, it is not the priority. I should still do the plan’s run because Nov is more important.

Luckily, Higdon’s plan called for a 1 hour 30 minute run with a MGP finish. I decided to run the 1:30 and pace myself tomorrow at a strong marathon goal pace on tired legs.

I ran 10 miles in just under 1hr 30 minutes and am going to take it easy the rest of the day.

Truthfully, I am a little nervous because when I did the Fontana Half in June and the SD RnR half the next day I was very sore and mentally burnt out for weeks. <- I don’t think I’ve run a race since then because I was so ‘done’ with running!

But, I have my compression socks pulled up and I’m going to do my best. IMG_6776 (600x800)

I’m off to get my bib! See ya later Smile

Five Fun Friday Fings

Happy Friday! For some reason Ben and I both woke up around 4:45am and couldn’t go back to sleep. Instead of fighting it he got ready for work and I got ready for run.

Run – I did 6 miles and felt GREAT the whole time. No music either – just my big ol’ head movies.

When Ben sat down to breakfast he noticed a lady bug hanging out on our kitchen table! They’re good luck. But, this one came here to die, so I’m not sure if that’s still lucky?IMG_6837 (800x533)

Ben made himself an egg sandwich and served it up on my Christmas ornament plate . I always think that is so weird?! He uses my Christmas and Easter plates all the time. He just sees a vehicle to serve his food, but I see holidays and it makes me confused.IMG_6836 (800x533)

On to Five Fun Friday Things…

1. I have a huge crush on this guy lately. ben and bailey1

I’m not sure if it’s that dimple or his ability to put on a proper lady bug burial before work, but I’m a fan…IMG_5409 (800x533) Photo bomb Cathy!

2. This guy did a full review of Five Guys Burgers and Fries in his car. It’s a little lengthy, so here’s the remix.

3. Skinny Runner and I are doing a last minute half marathon on Sunday! So, I’m swapping out my long run tomorrow to rest my legs (read: be lazy, watch trash TV, eat carbs).

She suggested we dress up for the race, so I’ll be spending hours slaving over my “annoying blogger who takes too many self portraits” costume.

Wait. I’m done. IMG_8320 (600x800)

4. I’ve been obsessed with squeezing lemon in my water this week and now I dance around with the lemon and channel this puppy when I partake…

This is the CUTEST puppy video ever – Puppy vs. Lemon

5. I’m having lunch with my little brother today! We’re going to Panera because I’ve totally been craving it Smile

What’s your weekend look like?

Postponed the FroYo

Reader Rochelle from Australia reached out to me ages ago that she’d be in town this week and wanted to meet up. We’ve been emailing back and forth for so long I was happy to finally meet her today!

We met at Pinkberry for fro-yo, but since it was lunch time and I hadn’t eaten I grabbed a WF salad from next door. IMG_6743 (800x600)

It was so cool to chat with a reader from the other side of the world! It was like we were old friends, except I don’t speak Aussie. She taught me that they call tank tops – singlets and you’re only supposed to spread a little Vegemite on your toast.

Now I know everything I need to know for a trip Down Under! Well, not everything, but what I lack in knowledge I make up for in enthusiasm!

Thanks Rochelle (and her doll of a little girl). IMG_6747 (600x800)

She even brought me a present = sunflower seed butter and MY FAVORITE PROTEIN POWDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IMG_6746 (800x600)

I got a special delivery in the mail today too! Vanilla Chocolate Chunk Chobani, I give a quick review in the Ask a Monican below.IMG_6750 (800x600)

Dinner was a salad and a frozen meal. Ben and I shared this straight out of the Tupperware he used to make it. Smile <- the smiley face is because he made the salad.IMG_6756 (800x600)

I made sure to leave room for dessert. After spending an hour in Pinkberry I had fro-yo on my mind into the afternoon. I usually “save” fro-yo for a weekend treat and tried not to get too crazy with it. $2.45 = moderation in my world. image

Ask a Monican #42 – Chobani Vanilla Chocolate Chunk review and how/should I train in the Canadian winter?!

Coming asap – there was an error processing it.
